Challenge
Cambridge County Council needed more park and ride capacity. At Trumpington, Skanska had to replace an attenuation pond with a tank strong enough to support a carpark above it while draining the whole housing-surrounded site.
Solution
GRAF UK installed nearly 29,000 EcoBloc Maxx modules in a geomembrane-wrapped 6,500 m³ tank within a 100 m by 72 m excavation up to 4 m deep prepared by Skanska. The structure was backfilled and finished as carpark pavement, releasing excess water at 15 L/s to the River Cam. About 200 extra parking spaces and a roughly 10% site enlargement are reported.
