Product details

Key construction, installation and performance notes for GRAF Treatment Mako Shark Sedimentation Plant.

Overview

The GRAF MAKO (Mako Shark / EcoProtect) is a hydrodynamic separator for stormwater pretreatment. A tangential inlet creates rotational flow so solids drop into a hydraulically isolated sludge trap and floatables stay at the surface. Treated water rises the outer ring, collects over a serrated weir, and exits with no inlet or outlet height difference.

The Australian catalogue covers about 1,200 m² to 35,000 m² connected catchment (30 to 875 L/s treatment flow) in Class D / SLW 60 concrete shafts. Cover and accessories are not included. Specify Vario connection angles, internal bypass, microplastic deflector or a flow regulator on project enquiry.

Detail 02

Operating principle

The teacup effect drives denser particles toward the centre while oil collects above the weir. Flow breakers isolate sludge so it is not remobilised in a storm.

  • Tangential inlet into the separator
  • Teacup effect: solids settle, floatables stay at the surface
  • Isolated sludge trap with flow breakers and grating
  • Even rise along the outer ring
  • Serrated weir into the annular chamber, preventing short-circuit flow
  • Outlet with no elevation difference; cannot clog

Detail 03

Variants

  • Standard MAKO: physical TSS removal in a standard manhole or custom vault
  • MAKO Vario: factory inlet and outlet at any angle for existing pipe alignments
  • MAKO Bypass: project-specific internal bypass, adjustable 15 or 25 L/(s·ha) overflow
  • Microplastic deflector: removable screens behind the weir for tyre wear, pellets and sports-surface fibres
  • Optional flow regulator to limit downstream discharge from the same chamber

Detail 04

Maintenance

  • Large central sludge chamber and three accessible sediment chambers
  • Central access from above; full visual inspection of the system
  • Suction and flushing from outside with a standard vacuum truck
  • No confined-space entry, no biofilm deposits and no camera inspection required

Detail 05

Standards and testing

  • NJCAT verified and NJDEP certified for TSS removal
  • DWA-A 102 / DWA-A 102-2 design reliability for discharge to surface water
  • DIN EN 858-1 light liquid retention greater than 98%
  • SQIDEP (Australia), BWCoP (UK) and VSA (Switzerland)
  • IKT-tested AFS63: 750 49.9%, 1000 47.4%, 1500 48.0%, 2000 48.7%, 2500 47.3%, 3000 47.51%
